Welcome!

This will be our home away from campus, where we will meet to read, write, interact and explore new texts. Eventually, you will be designing your own Fieldworking blog, where you will collect your data, thoughts, analyses and findings for the world to see and read about. But, for now, please write a short response to this post, once you find your way here, that tells us three intriguing things about YOU. What should we know about you? What would we never guess about you by looking at you? What talent or personality trait are you most proud of? This is your first blogging assignment of the semester, so please remember to consider AUDIENCE and PURPOSE when writing on this blog. Blogging for a college class is a particular rhetorical situation that requires your close attention to these two things. In the spirit of modeling that which I am asking of you, here are three intriguing fun facts about me, Dr. Cook: 1. I play the violin and the mandolin, and music is one of three activities that I engage in that allow me to clear my mind, to forget my worries, to block out the noise of the world and to renew my energy stores. 2. The other two activities are walking in the woods and writing. 3. I love to teach, and I love to teach writing. This is my 19th year as a teacher. Teaching is not a job for me; it's who I am in the world. I am a teacher. I look forward to meeting you all today and to reading your first posts here! Here's to a great semester together.

  3. 1. I see a lot of people putting talents and skills as the first point, so I'll go for that as well!. As for my skillset I've completed a beginner school trapeze program in the Dominican Republic a couple years back and thought that was pretty cool. I'm also relatively capable in blacksmithing small objects such as hooks and forks, and I have a certification in an energy healing art known as Reiki. Apart from that I don't do to many exciting things in my day to day life. I end up passing my free time by playing video games, writing philosophy and browsing world news.
    2. I travel as often as I possibly can and have a secondary life goal to explore a bit of every country in the world in my lifetime. so far I've got seven under my belt including my trips around the US. Wherever I travel I also try to get a hike or two in because I love everything about forests and mountains. I'm a big fan of cold weather and love everything about Fall and Winter.
    3. I love eccentric things, places, and people. If something is out of the "ordinary" then I'm immediatly interested in learning more about it. If someone asked what I was passionate about, I'd have to say I'm passionate about passion!

I figure that's a good little insight to quick facts about my life, thanks for listening to my long-winded info everyone!

  4. 1) I am a huge fan of movies, TV shows and anime, in fact, back in high school, my best friend and I ran the anime club together. I also adore concerts and music of all kinds, and you've probably noticed my affinity for band shirts.
    2) To me, there is nothing more therapeutic than helping other people talk about their problems. I'm also incredibly good at getting into serious conversations, the kind where people reveal the deep secrets that they usually won't talk about.
    3) I am absolutely fascinated by mythology and cultures from ancient civilizations but I have a special fascination for all things ancient Egypt. Someday, I hope to travel to all kinds of different places and see the ancient temples and ruins and enjoy the atmosphere that these places have to offer.

  6. 1. My favorite movies are all of the Harry Potter movies. The books are obviously way better and I've read each one at least five times. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is my favorite of them all. My favorite tv show is The Office because I love Steve Carell, and I think that the show is hilarious.
    2. I have a scar on my left hand because I cut my hand with an ice skate that I was wearing. I was trying to do all of these fancy spins and I fell. When I got up I saw red on my hand and had no idea what happened. That night I watched Finding Nemo at least 4 times until everything was finally finished. That night I walked out with seven stitches and a watermelon popsicle. I was eight when this happened.
    3. My favorite singer is Lady Gaga.

Needless to say I'm postponing celebrations until winter break starts! I hope to hike up Tuckerman Ravine and ski back down it this winter.
    3. I am an Eagle Scout and my time in Boy Scouts definitely formed my love for the outdoors that I have today. Despite disagreeing with some of the BSA's ideas, I will always be proud of everything I had to do to become an Eagle Scout.

    3. I am extremely fascinated by the Eiffel Tower and it is my life's goal to someday visit (hopefully sooner rather than later). My junior year of high school, all of my friends went on the Europe trip during April vacation and OF COURSE one of the places they visited was Paris. I was so jealous of them. I couldn't go because I already had a vacation planned. When they all got back, everyone was telling me the story of how my best friend got sick and threw up on my tower. And yes I call it "my" tower.
